As per Sec. 22 of the CGST Act, you shall take GST Registration within 30 days from the date of trigerring event. In the present case it would be the date the aggregate turnover exceeds the Specified threshold limit and not April 1st for the present set of facts. However the taxpayer is at his full liberty toapply for GST Registration on voluntary basis as per section 25 of CGST Act, irrespective of the fact whether the turnover is exceeding the specified threshold limiapply for GST Registration on voluntary basis asper section 25 of CGST Act, irrespective of the fact whether the turnover is exceeding the Specified threshold limit.

If your GST registration was surrendered because your turnover fell below the threshold, you must apply for fresh registration once your turnover actually crosses the threshold limit-not from the start of the financial year, but from the date your turnover exceeds the limit (?40 lakh for goods in most states, ?20 lakh for services or special category states). You should apply for GST registration within 30 days of crossing the threshold to stay compliant.
