Draft legislations on GST expected to be finalised by Sept 15: Finance Ministry
The finance ministry is in touch with the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers and state governments to get the key legislations passed necessary to roll out Goods and Services Tax (GST), the finance minister said, indicating that the government is working with an April 1 target despite its legislative setback.
The constitutional amendment Bill to roll out GST could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha where the ruling NDA doesn't have a majority. "It (GST) is going to be extremely friendly to the economy, to the businesses. It has the capacity to widen the base and yet reduce the level of harassment. It has the capacity to add to the country's GDP," Arun Jaitley said, describing the reform as monumental.
