Indirect tax collections grew at 9% in August this year to R40,644 crore from a year ago, indicating a promising growth trend in central excise and customs duties after muted performance in the initial months of the fiscal.
Customs duty collections grew at 9.9% in August after a paltry growth of 0.2% in July, while excise duty receipts retained in August the robust growth of the previous month at 8%. Service tax receipts, however, moderated from the double digit growth in the initial months of the fiscal to 9% in August.
